Many people do not feel well rested when they wake. Sometimes this is because of snoring and a lack of quality sleep. This lack of sleep may be caused by sleep apnea.
What causes Sleep Apnea?
When a person is aging, the airway can decrease. If the tongue collapses against the back of the throat, a person may be unable to get a good breath of air, or temporarily stops breathing all together. When a person is incapable of taking a good breath, he wakes and repositions his jaw in order to open his airway. This process may happen many times during the night without the patient knowing, and this frequent partial awakening can take a toll on a person's health, leaving him feeling tired and less alert the next day.
Treatments for Sleep Apnea
Dr. Trent Young can evaluate whether you are experiencing problems with sleep. He can then prescribe an appliance for you to wear at night that can help maintain your airway. You will then have a more restful night, resulting in more energy during the day.
